Billy Taylor was a great musician and writer, but in many ways his contributions musically to Jazz were dwarfed by the ways he promoted music through teaching.

An amazing example of how to play without ego and how to listen. It never gets too crowded, even though there are three pianos and a rhythm section. Sometimes the best thing to play is nothing.

A lesson I struggle to remember every time I sit at the piano. View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the Vinyl release of Billy Taylor on Discogs.

i hate the halberstadt; i can't exactly put my finger on it, but i just don't like it; i read it after the levine and ended up very disappointed. quite a lot of it is that the ways he has you voice chords are nowhere near as "street-wise" as the options mark levine gives you.Poem For #15 (The Saga Of Harrison Crabfeathers) is a beautiful, modal tune by pianist Steve Kuhn.

If you don’t yet know Kuhn’s playing, check him out; he plays wonderful jazz piano! The tune is a jazz waltz and was composed inaround the same time that Chick Corea, Gary Burton, and others were composing and performing similar music.
